Here is another great do it yourself gift idea from Gifts A GoGo. These Tea Cup planters are easy to make, inexpensive and look fantastic. They make the perfect gift for Mothers Day, Get Well, Birthday’s, Shower Favors or just about any occasion. You could also add them to the table at your next dinner party for a beautiful accent to each guest place setting. I put a few on my windowsill and they bring a bit of springtime to the kitchen. If you don’t have any extra tea or coffee cups around the house, you can find some really unique inexpensive ones at your local thrift stores.
You can find these tiny plants at your local nursery; I used Kalanchoe and a Button Fern. The mini rose plants also look very nice. I don’t recommend using potting soil and planting them directly into the cup because of lack of drainage. Simply add a bit of water and it will drain directly into the cup or remove moss and run plant under water.
- What you will need:
- Tea Cup or Coffee Cup
- Spanish Moss
- Small Plant
- Glue Dots – (this helps to keep the saucer in place and is easily removed)
Instructions – If your tea or coffee cup has a saucer, place glue dots on the bottom of cup and set on saucer. It’s a good idea to wet your moss, this will keep the mess down and give you a lot more control on how you want to position the moss. Place plant inside the cup and add some moss around it to keep secure. Place more moss on top and drape down over side of the rim to get the look you want. (See Illustrations below).
